René Lagler
Production Designer
René Lagler is an Emmy Award-winning Production Designer whose career spans over 2,500 television shows and major events. Known for his contemporary and classic designs, his work includes The View, Hollywood Squares, network news, game shows, and award shows such as the Grammys, Emmys, and the Academy Awards—earning him multiple Emmys, including for the 57th Oscars. He was Production Designer for the 1984 Olympic Ceremonies in Los Angeles and David Wolper’s Liberty Weekend in 1986, celebrating the Statue of Liberty’s centennial. His television credits include specials for Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Julie Andrews, Billy Crystal, Dolly Parton, and Neil Diamond. He also designed Encore: Three Tenors at Dodger Stadium and the Three Tenors World Cup concert in Paris. René created stage environments for three Papal visits: Pope John Paul II in Central Park (1995), Pope Benedict XVI at Yankee Stadium (2008), and Pope Francis in Philadelphia (2015). His work includes the Democratic National Conventions (1988–2000), Presidential Inaugural Galas, CNN studios, and Capitol Concerts for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Beyond television, he designed Porsche Design Beverly Hills, Villa Real at Caesars Palace, and large-scale sculptures including the Bow Sundial in St. Petersburg, FL, the Special Olympics Torch in Boise, and the 505 sculpture in Nashville. Born in Zurich, Switzerland, René graduated from Art Center College of Design and has lived in Lake Arrowhead, California since 1996. He has received five Emmy Awards, 18 nominations, and the 2017 Art Directors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.
